White! That was the theme behind Valentino’s special Haute Couture show in New York earlier this week. It was the house’ first ever haute couture showcase in the US. The collection was also inspired by New York while also delving into the brands archive – the 1968 White Collection to be precise. It coincided with the launch of the houses’ new flagship boutique on fifth avenue as well as an art exhibition called The Five Senses.
The special showcase consisted of retro Victorian inspired fabrics and patterns, tulle details, embroidery and structured coats, some lengthy and others short. Detail versus clean minimalist looks. The message? What better colour that white to make things a little more visible.
